How Do I Maintain The @ease Smartchlor System In My Hot Tub?

The @ease system is one of our most popular sanitation systems. They are easy to use and maintain. Follow the steps below to make sure your system is operating and providing the best quality water.

Freshwater (FW) products are the water care products which Mainely Tubs recommends for complete synchronization and sanitation.

Chemical Start Up (for new water):

  1. Balance total alkalinity/pH
  2. Balance calcium hardness
  3. Add one packet of Frog Jump Start
  4. Wait 1 day
  5. Check and adjust pH level as needed
  6. Ensure that both the @ease Smartchlor and Mineral Cartridge are installed with the Mineral Cartridge on top to ensure more even distribution of the sanitizer
  7. Set the output level at 6. Levels can be adjusted later based on need

Once a Week:

  1. Wipe down the water line with a non-abrasive scrub pad, such as a magic eraser
  2. Check total alkalinity/pH and Chlorine using @ease Smartchlor Test Strips. Adjust with Freshwater pH/Alkalinity Up or Freshwater pH/Alkalinity Down as needed, following the directions on the bottle
  3. Super oxidize the spa by adding 2 to 3 ounces of Freshwater MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidizer (shock)
  4. Rotate filters

Once a Month:

  1. Remove filter(s) and clean using Freshwater Instant Filter Cleaner, following the directions on the bottle. Be sure to thoroughly rinse filters to remove all trace of cleaner. Filters must be cleaned a minimum of once per month to ensure a properly functioning hot tub
  2. Check the @ease Smartchlor cartridge using the @ease Smartchlor Test Strips and replace as needed (smaller gallon models may last longer)
  3. If needed, clean interior of the spa using Freshwater SpaShine Hot Tub Shell Cleaner and a non-abrasive scrub pad
  4. Clean the cover surface with Freshwater Cover Shield

An extra set of filters will make this process easier

Every 4-6 Months (based off water quality):

  1. Terminate power to the spa
  2. Completely drain the spa per the instructions found in your owner’s manual
  3. Refill by placing the hose in the filter compartment, making sure the @ease cartridge is out (to prevent airlocks)
  4. Replace the filter and @ease cartridge
  5. Make certain the spa is circulating before allowing the heater to operate

** ONLY DRAIN & REFILL WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 40F **

Notes:

  1. You may need to shock with Freshwater MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidizer more often if use is high
  2. To suppress foaming while in the tub, use Freshwater Defoamer
  3. For oily films, soap, or heavy bather loads (cloudy water), use Bright & Clear
  4. To remove excess, build up in plumbing lines use Jet Clean prior to draining. Make sure to take your @ease SmartChlor, Mineral Cartridge and filter out before adding the Jet Clean.
  5. For an extra deep clean, you can use Freshwater Hot Tub Filter Cleaner overnight soak.

All recommendations are based on 1-2 people; 2 times per week for a 20 minute soak
