If your hot tub water contains phosphates that are causing issues with your water care, please follow the instructions below.
For your convenience, the following instructions are available for PDF download - click here.
- Turn off the Salt System by turning your output to 0. This will need to remain off for 24 hours after adding the PhosFree product. We do not recommend using the tub while the remover is working.
- Depending on level of phosphates, please take the following course of action:
- For Phosphate levels between 200 ppb and 1000 ppb, turn on all jets and add 2 ounces of the PhosFree Phosphate Remover to the tub, making sure to shake the bottle well. Run all jets on high for 30 minutes. The main diverter should be in the position where all jets are working. Proceed to step 4.
- For Phosphate levels over 1000 ppb, turn on all jets and add 3 ounces of the PhosFree Phosphate Remover to the tub, making sure to shake the bottle well. Run all jets on high for 30 minutes. The main diverter should be in the position where all jets are working. Proceed to step 4.
- Approximately 4 hours later, run jets for another 30 minutes. Repeat this step 2 more times during the 24 hours.
- NOTE: Phosphate Remover may cause the water in your hot tub to become cloudy. This is normal and a sign that it is working. This should clear up as the product continues to work.
- Approximately 24 hours after adding PhosFree Phosphate Remover, test the phosphate levels in the hot tub again with your test kit.
- If the phosphate levels are still above 200 ppb, repeat the process above starting at step 2.
- If the phosphate levels are below 200 ppb, thoroughly clean the filter(s) making sure to rinse them well. Proceed to the next step.
- Once the filters are clean, reinstall them in the hot tub and turn the output back on. Ensure your output level is set appropriately for your usage.
- Test the water for a chlorine reading with a chlorine test strip. If the chlorine level is below 1 ppm, add ½ oz. – 1 oz. (depending on the size of the tub) of granular chlorine to the spa.
- Monitor chlorine levels weekly and adjust your output setting on the Salt System screen to maintain at least 1 ppm, but no more than 3 ppm, consistently.
